What We Know So Far – Injustice 2

Injustice 2 is coming, and after the first game’s surprise — a DC fighter people played for the story as much as the uppercuts — NetherRealm has our attention again.

What we actually know is still mostly from the reveal. Superman’s regime did a number on the world, and the sequel is set in the aftermath rather than pretending the last round did not count. A Batman who won ugly is a more interesting host than a Batman who is only there to sell a skin.

The gear system is the bit that has fighting-game people nervous. Dressing and tuning a character between matches is a fine toy. If that toy walks into ranked play, we will be having a different, louder conversation. Keep it in the story and the single-player fluff and everybody stays friends.

Roster talk is the usual mix of locks and wishes. Batman, Superman and Harley are not going to miss a DC fighter. Everything else is rumour until a trailer says the name out loud. We would like Aquaman to keep the trident-and-attitude energy from the first game, because he was the one nobody expected to main.

Story mode is the real sell. NetherRealm’s recent campaigns have been comics you can lose a fight inside. Injustice earned a follow-up by treating “what if the hero snaps” as a plot instead of a palette swap. We want consequences, not a reset button with better hair.

No firm date on our desk beyond 2017, and no review build, so this is a wishlist with a logo. We will update it when the next character walks through a wall. Until then the first game is still on the shelf, and the regime is still a bad idea nobody has properly apologised for.
